The Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to her second child at the Lindo Wing of St. Mary’s hospital on Saturday morning, Kensington Palace confirmed. The royal baby was born at 8:34 a.m. (3:34 a.m. ET) after Middleton was admitted to the hospital at 6:00 a.m. (1 a.m. ET). The baby weighs 8 pounds, 3 ounces.
The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth, Kensington Palace said, and both Middleton and her baby girl are “doing well.” The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry, and members of both families have been informed of the birth. A ceremonial crier announced the birth as local media gathered outside the Lindo Wing, the private luxury birthing suite inside St. Mary’s.
The baby will be the fourth in line to the throne and ranks behind her father Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, her grandfather Charles, Prince of Wales, and her brother Prince George, Prince of Cambridge. Earlier, Prince Charles said he was hoping for a girl. Meanwhile, British Prime Minister David Cameron has tweeted his congratulations to the couple on the birth of their baby girl. “I’m absolutely delighted for them.”
