The emotional state for a woman in labour can affect her somatic state, and vice versa: Physical changes, including hormonal levels, change your mental state as well. Women in labour and after giving birth are more susceptible to stress, in which time there is an increased risk of mental ilness, like depression. Future and “fresh” moms often experience fear and/or higher stress levels, which can cause many mood swings. Women that had health issues during pregnancy or during labour are especially susceptible. However, these symptoms rarely escalate beyond anything serious, like chronic depression.
